BYD’s sales last year surpassed the $100 billion mark, leapfrogging Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. on revenue, as the Chinese auto giant wows consumers with a range of electric and hybrid cars packed with high-tech features.
Shenzhen-based BYD reported revenue of 777 billion yuan ($107 billion) for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, up 29%, according to a filing late Monday, beating estimates for 766 billion yuan. Tesla’s 2024 revenue was $97.7 billion. The Chinese EV maker’s net income rose 34% year-on-year to 40.3 billion yuan, beating analyst estimates for 39.5 billion yuan.
BYD has risen quickly to the top of China’s car market — the world’s biggest and most competitive in terms of electric vehicles. This year alone, BYD has unveiled a new ecosystem that allows EVs to charge for 400 kilometers in just five minutes and introduced advanced driver assistance technology in even its most basic models. Investors have sent its shares to a record and BYD’s Hong Kong-listed stock is up around 51% this year.
BYD also sells about the same number of EVs as Tesla — 1.76 million in 2024 versus 1.79 million — but, when all of its other passenger hybrid car sales are included, it’s much larger. BYD’s total deliveries last year climbed to 4.27 million, almost as much as Ford Motor Co.
BYD has forecast it can sell between 5 million to 6 million vehicles this year. It’s already off to a strong start, with sales in the first two months of 2025 up 93% year-on-year to 623,300 units.
One area where Tesla still clearly leads however is market valuation. The US carmaker is worth about $800 billion despite a share-price rout that’s seen the stock plunge 38% this year. BYD has a market capitalization closer to $157 billion.
Musk’s EV maker also makes more money on an absolute basis; Tesla’s net income last year was $7.6 billion.
But whereas Tesla is losing in China — shipments have been backsliding there for the past five consecutive months on a year-on-year basis — BYD is winning. China is still far and away BYD’s biggest market, where it commands a share of almost 15%, not just for new-energy vehicles but any sort of passenger car.
BYD doesn’t sell passenger cars in the US yet due to punitive tariffs on made-in-China automobiles, but it’s made big inroads into markets in Europe, places in Asia like Singapore and Thailand, as well as Australia.
Wang Chuanfu, BYD’s chairman and founder, said in a statement the company planned to keep boosting research and development while bolstering its product competitiveness, including in its focus of succeeding outside of China.
He also said that Chinese auto brands in the era of intelligence-led vehicles were no longer merely followers, but rather at the forefront of the trend. They’re “daring” to be first in the world and are collaborating with other domestic brands to go global and move up the value chain, he said.
BNEF's Ryan Fisher reports.

Ibrahim Traore - The New Thomas Sankara & The Man Saving Africa's Natural Resources - In the annals of Burkina Faso's history, a new figure has emerged in the form of Ibrahim Traoré, drawing comparisons to the iconic revolutionary leader, Thomas Sankara. Ibrahim Traoré, a once relatively obscure and low-ranking officer in Burkina Faso's military, has swiftly risen to the center of the nation's political stage. In September 2022, Traoré and a group of soldiers successfully executed a coup, overthrowing President Paul-Henri Damiba, and the aftermath of their audacious move is marked by jubilant crowds welcoming Traoré as the self-declared leader.
With an aura of charisma and an agenda that echoes Sankara's ideals of progress and social justice, Traore has been hailed by some as the new torchbearer of Burkina Faso's aspirations. However, the parallels drawn between the two figures also raise questions about the potential impact of Traore's rule on the nation's political landscape and whether he can truly emulate the legacy of the indomitable Thomas Sankara.
During his conversation with Radio France International, Ibrahim Traoré confidently declared that his time in power would be transitory, as a National Conference was on the horizon to appoint a new interim leader before the year's end. Demonstrating his dedication to a smooth transition of power, he emphasized his commitment to honoring an agreement made with West Africa's Regional bloc, which aims to restore civilian rule in Burkina Faso by 2024. Despite these pledges, the future trajectory of the nation remains shrouded in uncertainty, leaving many questioning what lies ahead for Burkina Faso in this crucial period of transition.

Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame said his county “remains committed to working with partners, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to contribute to a durable solution. He was referring to migration crisis, also affecting his county, saying that every year migrants and
refugees undertake dangerous journeys in search of a better future.
Addressing the General Assembly today (20 Sep), Kagame added, “that is part of our promise to leave no one behind.”
According to him, “this week, the International Telecommunications Union, led by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, together with UNDP, also unveiled a major new initiative on inclusive Digital Public Infrastructure.” He added, “Rwanda is very happy to be associated with these efforts, which show the United Nations at its best.”
The Rwandan President also said, “for Rwanda, the source of our solidarity comes from our commitment to never allow a repetition of the tragedy that was inflicted on us, nearly thirty years ago.”
Kagame concluded, “we continue to remain grateful to all who have accompanied us on our journey, as we plan to commemorate the Genocide against the Tutsi for the 30th time in April 2024.”
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

The African-American history is fragment of America’s history which precisely converses the Black American traditional groups staying in United States of America. Maximum of this population are original people of Africa who were deliberately brought and kept in confinement in the United States of America from 1555 to 1865. Many blacks whose ancestors had emigrated from the Caribbean to America are also considered to be African-American as their roots go back to Central or West Africa.
